Frequently Asked Questions

HMS was founded in 1977 and has acquired a great deal of knowledge over the years, both in product development and insight into the market and the field. The specialists at HMS know what is going on and what people in the field are up against. They respond to this with expertise and proactive advice. With its own line of innovative products, HMS is always ready to assist the customer as best as possible. A major advantage is that the products can not only be purchased, but also rented and that both branches of industry work in a complementary way to each other. This also gives the opportunity to try out machines before purchasing them.
The question which producer is better: Bagela or Thaler, is a question that reaches us regularly. In fact, there is no difference between the two producers. Both Bagela and Thaler have the same high (made in Germany) quality in the products they offer and continuously develop.
One drum trailer for all the different drums you have: I always try to achieve that. The question I always ask for a drum trailer is: What is the height, width and weight of the smallest drum and the largest drum you have, so that I can find a drum trailer that ideally fits all. Another point of attention: what is the diameter of the axle hole? To be sure that the thickness of the axle of the drum trailer will also fit through the hole of the drum.
Thaler and Bagela products are of the same high German quality. Thaler was founded by a number of Bagela craftsmen and has its factory, like Bagela itself, near Hamburg.
Bagela is well-known and has been supplying good quality cable winches for many years. Jacob Thaler, which like Bagela is located near Hamburg, has been around for 60 years this year and is known for the high (made in Germany) quality of their products. In terms of quality, there is no difference between the two companies.
The choice of cable winch depends on the work. If you are pulling through a trench, cable rollers and corner rollers and, where necessary, cable pushers can ensure that the friction on the cable is reduced and you may be able to use a smaller, and therefore cheaper, cable winch. If you are pulling through a borehole, a cable lubricant product will ensure that the friction can be reduced, which also determines the choice of cable winch. With support software such as the Jetplanner, you can simulate the installation of cables and pipes in advance and gain insight into which environmental factors you need to take into account and which tools need to be used to achieve a problem-free installation. The more we know about your specific situation and work, the better and more detailed we can assist you with both the winch choice and the cable lengths.
The biggest problem you can encounter is that the cable is too short, or that the cable breaks because the maximum pulling weight is exceeded. These are problems that can be prevented with good preparation by anticipating the challenges that the practical field of work entails in advance. Everything that deviates from a straight line presents its challenges. In practice, when installing cables, we have to deal with differences in level, bends and curves that all cause friction. You want to do everything you can to reduce the friction coefficient. There are various tools that can be used for this, such as cable and angle rollers that ensure that the trench, the slot, is as sloping as possible to keep the friction during cable installation as low as possible. Support software such as the Jetplanner can help with this. With the Jetplanner, you simulate the installation of cables and pipes and you can take into account all the physical environmental factors that you will be confronted with on site in advance. This way you can determine in advance what you need to take into account and which resources need to be used to ensure a problem-free installation.
Plumettaz is the market leader in everything that has to do with blowing machines, the development level is high and with that they simply deliver the best quality. There is a lot of engineering behind it and the machines are continuously developed down to the last detail. If you look at the latest machines, you will see that, with the intuitive interface that they have, you yourself have to do very little. It all works as it were "automatically". Both the user-friendliness and the quality of execution are extremely high. This is the reason for us to only offer Plumettaz blowing equipment. Given the careful working method of Plumettaz and the quality of the products, a higher price is understandable and certainly acceptable for the buyers of the machines.
What we encounter in particular with the problem reports that we receive is that the time has not been taken to properly measure what the correct diameter of the cable or tube is. Ultimately, it is the way of adjusting that can cause problems. We therefore advise our customers, if you encounter an incorrect adjustment, to come by with a piece of cable or tube, then we will take a look with you and ensure the correct adjustment. It is a bit of extra service that we offer.
The range of machines is large. For every situation there is always a suitable machine to be found. Which machine and which configuration should be used in it is something we advise our customers on, if necessary.
For a rocket you need a different compressor than for a blower. For example, use the M20 for a rocket and the M27 for blowing into subducts or the M125 to blow into subducts. Other considerations: One customer asks for a low pressure, another for a high pressure, while another needs a certain m3 to fill something with air. It is important that you know what work you are going to do, so that you can calculate how many m3 you actually need. A compressor with more m3 does not always mean that it is the best choice. You would think that a larger compressor is better, but often a compressor with fewer m3 is just as good and can be more than sufficient for the work you have. And even better if you look at cost savings: a large compressor is not only more expensive to use, it is also more expensive to transport. If you look carefully at what you really need, then significant cost savings can be made quickly and easily.
